Carrier-grade Solutions
As the growth of data services continues to explode while the competitive landscape becomes more and more fierce, Tier-1 and other large carriers face increasingly challenging requirements to support customers' demands for advanced services and tiered charging schemes. Traffix Diameter solutions are especially designed to scale large networks and satisfy not only today’s requirements but all others that arise in the future. Smart phones with their constant connections are causing havoc in network cores due to continual signaling in the control plane that require far more network elements. Combined with the growing demand by subscribers for advanced services and operators’ desire to implement tiered pricing and maintain high quality of service, network complexity is getting out of hand.
Large carriers need signaling products that can manage complex change at the rapid pace of the telecom industry's dynamic nature. They need products that enable them to adapt to changing needs without returning to developers' desks. Carriers need to know they can easily handle challenges that are not yet known, using the robust signaling products that have been already deployed.
The Traffix Signaling Delivery Controller (SDC) was designed with all these requirements in mind to meet challenges of today, plus all signaling issues that come your way in the future for any reason. When deploying the SDC complete with the Diameter Load Balancer, Diameter Gateway and Diameter Router solutions, Tier-1 and other carriers of large deployments receive:
- A future proof solution with a roadmap that is compatible with 3GPP release standards
- Telco-grade robust performance that matches any required capacity
- Scalability to handle hundreds of thousands of transactions per second
- Support for subscriber base sizes of one hundred million and higher
- Flexibility to handle today's challenges and any that emerge in the future without additional development requirements
- A simple management tool to immediately identify problems in the network and the root of the problem
- Context-aware real-time analytics for improved subscriber and network management
Here are typical deployment scenarios when Tier-1 carriers should be using the Traffix SDC:
Scenario 1: Scaling large PCRF/PCEF infrastructure and enabling complex policy and management requirements Service providers have the following deployment requirements:
- To enable location-based connectivity between PCRFs and PCEFs
- To ensure that open sessions are kept routed to the original PCRF (“stickiness”)
- To maintain an open session state and information within sites and across sites for failure resilience and geo-redundancy
- To send roaming/visiting subscribers to dedicated PCRF
- Real time indication of all service issues: e.g. PCRF outage, PCRF failure, restarts, and Diameter timeouts across the threshold, and others
- To build a scalable base for rapid future PCRF/PCEF introductions
- To manage a multi PCRF/PCRF vendor environment, masquerading any Diameter AVP changes in any of the clients/servers for continual operation and faster service introduction
- For initial support of 80k TPS
Scenario 2: Securing data center services and enabling finely tuned policy-based access control per customer Service providers have the following deployment requirements:
- To deploy Diameter load balancing functionality in every data center to enable data center internal functionalities masquerading
- To ensure local data center internal failovers or outages are not affecting the network outside the data center – monitor open Diameter sessions across data center and load balance accordingly across internal data center functionalities
- To maintain open sessions information and state for failover recovery in every data center
- For service center access control – different services and subscribers receive different access authorization and routing
- For initial support of 120k TPS
Scenario 3: Online charging scalability and new services enablement Service providers have the following deployment requirements:
- To perform routing between GGSN’s, services and charging systems
- To support multiple vendor Diameter interfaces (Ro, Gy, DCCA, SCAP) different flavors
- To enable rapid service and GGSN’s introduction while reducing ongoing management efforts
- For complex context-based Diameter routing of subscribers/services to support new charging schemes and fragmented policy control
- For initial support of 90k TPS
Scenario 4: Cross service providers signaling connectivity in a combined LTE and legacy environment Service providers have the following deployment requirements:
- To connect network functionalities between home and visited networks (hPCRF, vPCRF, HSS, MME.. )
- To masquerade and normalize vendor specific AVP’S and changes for smooth cross vendor connectivity
- To deploy in a cross vendor, cross generation environment with the need to support legacy signaling protocols
- For complex cross site, cross service provider signaling routing
- For access and routing control based on multiple restrictions
- For initial support of 80k TPS
