SDC Enhanced Diameter Edge Agent (DEA)

Tighter Security and Improved Performance in Roaming, Billing and 3rd Party Content Providers

 

When deploying the Traffix Signaling Delivery Controller (SDC), service providers extend their capabilities in network signaling for tighter security and normalized functionality in roaming, billing and third party content scenarios.  The Traffix DEA is an integral capability of the Traffix Signaling Delivery Controller routing solution. The SDC combines all of a carrier’s signaling requirements into a single platform with its Diameter gateway, load balancer and router.

The routing enhancements achieved with the DEA provide the extra security service providers require to work freely with third party roaming partners and share resources securely. When the Traffix DEA is located on the edge of the network,  it works to protect and normalize the flow of messages. For example, if a problem arises between two networks’ PCRFs – both networks are protected from overflow or failover situations.

Part of the DRA, the Traffix Diameter Edge Agent is enhanced with the following:

  1. Normalization engine ensuring that only supported AVPs (attribute-value pair) and content enter the network
  2. High security and failover protection – done by masquerading the network to prevent unauthorized access, by ensuring that external sessions are routed according to policies set by the service provider
  3. Guaranteed accuracy of incoming and outgoing messages with mechanisms to either fix or reject the message if the message presents a problem
  4. Network protection from both overload and draining the network’s resources
  5. Prevention of outgoing messages from content that exposes the network
  6. Improved Diameter policy rule engine that makes decisions on an unlimited number of AVPs based on destination, origin, location, QoS, rating, vendor or any other information or any combination thereof
  7. Full compliance with GSMA’s IR.88 requirements for LTE roaming guidelines
  8. Support of IPsec and/or TLS security
  9. Key KPIs based on unique visibility of all Diameter signaling information entering or leaving the network

Having these capabilities support the realization of LTE. One key example is the powerful security – it enables service providers to work freely with third party roaming partners and share resources securely.
